I recycle, I turn the tap off while I brush my teeth and ditched aerosol deodorant for roll on. But when I saw one of my childhood friends recently, who told me her sister was consciously not going to have children due to the environment.
It 1.) blew my mind; and 2.) made me think I could probably try a little harder to be a bit more eco-friendly. Not in the limiting repopulation of the world sort of view, but with products I use everyday, and in particular my beauty routine.
To remove my makeup I’ve tried all sorts and found that cotton wool works the best and is the softest option for my skin. That means I go through heaps of it over the span of a year. Good news though, it can be recycled in your compost bin, which I’ve only just found out about whilst writing this post. I know shame on me.
Reusable Eco-friendly Makeup Remover Pads (£5) – White Rabbit Skin Care
My alternative has been reusable pads, which are made from a soft fleece material. You use them like cotton wool and when you’re done you pop them in a mesh laundry bag and wash them in the washing machine. That’s if you don’t shove them in the bin by mistake! You can also hand wash them, although machine washing cleans them up the best… almost like new.
Mini Pouch (£1.99) – Simple
These Simple skincare pouches are made of 62% less plastic, and are perfect for travelling with. They seal up great so don’t be worrying about spills and the packaging is pretty cute. I think it’s a great idea, and I hope more brands branch into packaging like this.
I know these two changes aren’t massive leaps into being eco-friendly, but they are in the right direction and a start.
